Department of Public Health Dentistry

Public Health Dentistry is one of the nine specialties of dentistry which believes in the holistic concept of health. The subject deals with providing improved access and increased awareness to oral health care for the underserved population through its outreach programs. It also deals with conducting research with emphasis on oral disease surveillance, program evaluation, common risk factors between systemic diseases and oral diseases. A major aspect of Public Health Dentistry involves planning, executing and evaluation of community oral health programs. The core areas of the subject are: epidemiology, biostatistics, preventive dentistry, social science and administration.

Facilities:

•Train the Students in Preventive and Curative Oral Health Services for Patients in community settings.  
•A fully Operational Tobacco Cessation Counselling Center .  
•Train the Students In Multi-Disciplinary Dental Public Health Research.  
•Train the Students to Display Leadership Qualities in Organizing Community-Based Activities for Various Populations.  
•Train in the Planning and Implementation of  Various  National Health Programs.  
•Conducting regular Oral health Camp for schoolchildren, rural residents, the economically privileged, and people who live in old age homes, orphanages, and facilities for people with special needs, such as those who are deaf, physically or mentally challenged, or who are visually impaired.
